The partnership leverages a joint-deployment model designed to stabilize the economics of driverless transport. Pony.ai contributes its Level 4 autonomous driving software and hardware, while Uber integrates these vehicles into its existing mobility platform, handling booking, payment, and customer support. Local fleet partners will manage the day-to-day maintenance and operational logistics in each respective market.
This agreement builds on the momentum generated in May 2025, when the two firms first aligned to bring autonomous vehicles to international markets. By utilizing a hybrid approach—combining robotaxis with Uber’s existing network of human drivers—the companies aim to replicate the commercial success Pony.ai has already achieved in China’s tier-one cities. Beyond the European rollout, the collaboration includes explicit plans for future expansion into the Middle East, signaling a broader intent to standardize their autonomous infrastructure globally.
