Russel Metals Secures TSX Approval for Share Buyback Program

Russel Metals Inc. has received Toronto Stock Exchange approval to launch a new normal course issuer bid, permitting the company to repurchase up to 5,446,896 common shares. This authorization, representing 10% of the public float, begins August 18 and aims to manage capital allocation through August 2027.

The company will fund the repurchases using existing cash reserves or credit facilities, with all acquired shares slated for cancellation. Daily buyback activity on the TSX is capped at 59,558 shares, reflecting 25% of the average daily trading volume recorded over the six-month period ending July 31, 2026. Management retains the discretion to adjust or suspend these repurchases based on shifting market conditions and internal growth requirements.

This initiative follows the expiration of a prior bid, under which the firm acquired 1,021,400 shares at a weighted average price of $41.89. As of August 10, 2026, Russel Metals reported 54,906,755 shares issued and outstanding. The company operates across North America as a metals distributor, maintaining segments focused on service centers, energy field stores, and large-scale steel distribution.
