Olive Tree People Opens First U.S. Flagship in Venice

On August 27, a 150-year-old olive tree located in Spain will ceremonially open the first U.S. flagship for Olive Tree People on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice. By transmitting its live frequency across the Atlantic, the tree marks the expansion of the German-founded Waterless Beauty brand into the California market.

The new space at 1335 Abbot Kinney serves as a physical manifestation of founder Thomas Lommel’s journey, which began two decades ago following a personal health crisis. To bridge the gap between his Mediterranean roots and his new home in Los Angeles, architect Jeremy Barbour utilized 45,000 pounds of soil from both Spain and California, compressed into the structure using ancient rammed-earth techniques. The interior features sculptural forms modeled after olive trees, replacing traditional retail shelving to create what Lommel describes as a cathedral-like environment.

This opening follows three years of rapid growth for the company in the United States. Lommel, who pioneered the Waterless Beauty category by replacing water in skincare formulations with bioactive hydroxytyrosol-rich olive leaf elixirs, views the flagship as more than a retail location. It is intended to house the brand’s entire wellness portfolio, including the Olive re:connect Frequency Room, which explores the therapeutic potential of sound and nature connection. The site will host master classes and consultations led by aestheticians and the company’s network of over 70,000 consultants.
