Home Depot Reports Sales Growth Amid Steady Demand for Smaller Projects

The Home Depot reported second-quarter sales of $47.9 billion for fiscal 2026, marking a 5.7% increase over the previous year. Despite a complex economic environment, the retail giant exceeded expectations as consumer interest in smaller home improvement projects helped drive a 1.7% rise in comparable sales.

Net earnings reached $4.8 billion, or $4.79 per diluted share, up from $4.6 billion in the same period last year. Richard McPhail, the company's CFO, noted that the results were bolstered by broad-based demand, allowing the business to navigate ongoing market volatility. Senior Executive Vice President Ann-Marie Campbell credited the performance to disciplined execution and a continued focus on customer service across the company's 2,364 retail locations.

Looking ahead, the company has reaffirmed its fiscal 2026 guidance, projecting total sales growth between 2.5% and 4.5%. While the retailer anticipates pressure from fuel and energy costs, these are expected to be partially mitigated by IEEPA tariff refunds. The company continues to prioritize capital expenditures, maintaining a target of approximately 2.5% of total sales while planning to open 15 new stores by the end of the fiscal year.
