Virtual Financial Wellness Tools Boost Retirement Readiness for Older Workers

Worker confidence in a comfortable retirement has dipped to 61% this year, prompting employers and advisors to prioritize financial wellness for staff nearing retirement. New research from Financial Finesse suggests that virtual coaching platforms are effectively closing critical readiness gaps for employees aged 55 and older within just one year.

The Employee Benefit Research Institute reports a notable decline in retirement security, with confidence levels falling from 67% in 2025 to 61% in 2026. As organizations like the Institutional Retirement Income Council shift their focus to this demographic, data from the Financial Finesse Financial Wellness Think Tank highlights how digital engagement drives behavioral change. Among users 55 and older, 91.8% updated their retirement plan beneficiaries, while 82.3% increased their contributions to secure full employer matches.

Beyond individual progress, these improvements offer a measurable return on investment for companies. A model developed by Financial Finesse estimates that a 50,000-employee firm could save roughly $1.95 million annually by mitigating costs associated with delayed retirements. For smaller businesses, the impact remains significant, with projected savings of approximately $467 per employee each year. Susan Weeks, director of key accounts at Financial Finesse, noted that the key to these outcomes lies in active participation, which allows workers to address complex financial decisions before their official retirement date arrives.
