Andelyn Biosciences to Manufacture Gene Therapy for Queen's University

Andelyn Biosciences has entered a strategic partnership with Queen's University to develop and manufacture AAV9-GM2, an experimental gene therapy designed to treat GM2 gangliosidoses. The collaboration aims to address the progressive neurological decline associated with rare, inherited conditions like Tay-Sachs and Sandhoff diseases through advanced viral vector production.

The project utilizes Andelyn’s proprietary AAV Curator Platform, a modular system designed to streamline viral vector manufacturing. By leveraging this established regulatory-proven methodology, the Columbus-based CDMO intends to scale production while maintaining the quality standards required for clinical trials. The program will proceed in multiple phases to prepare the candidate for patient dosing.

Dr. Jagdeep Walia, a medical geneticist at Queen's University, noted that the university selected Andelyn specifically for its extensive track record in vector production. Matt Niloff, Chief Commercial Officer at Andelyn, emphasized that the firm’s focus remains on providing the manufacturing rigor necessary to transition the therapy from development into clinical reality. This initiative aligns with Andelyn’s broader efforts to support treatments for ultra-rare diseases, drawing on over two decades of experience in producing cGMP-compliant material for global clinical trials.
