Employee devices have emerged as a significant blind spot in corporate security as workers increasingly integrate coding assistants, browser-based tools, and local AI applications into their workflows. While enterprises have established robust controls for cloud-based AI, these systems often fail to monitor the high-risk actions occurring directly on individual machines. Aquila addresses this by extending the company’s Draco runtime control plane to the endpoint, allowing security and compliance teams to enforce policies at the point of origin.
The tool operates across three distinct layers: maintaining an approved-tools allowlist, preventing unauthorized data exfiltration, and identifying shadow AI activity. Unlike traditional security software that alerts administrators after a potential breach has already occurred, Aquila functions as a gatekeeper, deciding in real-time whether a specific AI-driven request should be permitted. According to co-founder Alharith Hussin, the goal is to provide the same level of oversight on a laptop that organizations currently expect from their centralized cloud environments. By unifying policy management across both production clusters and employee hardware, Alterion seeks to provide a scalable foundation for enterprise AI governance as the use of agentic tools continues to accelerate.
