Sirius Joins a16z Speedrun to Automate Subscription Retention

Subscription businesses have mastered the art of customer acquisition, but the final stage of the lifecycle remains stuck in manual, reactive workflows. San Francisco-based startup Sirius is now tackling this imbalance, joining the a16z Speedrun Cohort 006 to scale an AI platform designed to intervene before a user churns.

Founded by Azamat Khamidov and Benazir Toleubekova, the company targets the critical gap between a customer clicking "cancel" and the actual termination of service. While most existing tools provide post-mortem dashboards on why users left, Sirius monitors behavior in real time to offer personalized alternatives—such as temporary pauses, plan downgrades, or bespoke incentives—before the departure is finalized.

Khamidov, who previously scaled a consumer AI firm to millions of users, argues that retention should match the sophistication of modern acquisition. Toleubekova, leveraging her engineering experience from Tencent and Taobao, has built the platform to analyze user context instantly. By moving away from static cancellation pages, the startup aims to transform the churn moment into a dynamic decision point. Current clients including Higgsfield, Headway, and Promova are already testing this automated approach to prevent avoidable loss.
