Villa Grove Water System Maintenance Begins Monday

Beginning August 24, Illinois American Water will initiate its annual hydrant flushing program in Villa Grove to clear mineral deposits and sediment from local water mains. The maintenance work, scheduled to run through September 4, also allows crews to verify that fire hydrants remain fully operational for emergency use.

Lucas Esteppe, Director of Operations for the Eastern Division, noted that the process involves opening hydrants to increase water flow, which may cause temporary drops in pressure or discoloration for local residents. While service interruptions are not anticipated, the company advises customers to store drinking water beforehand and check for clarity before running laundry or dishwashers. If water appears discolored after the work, residents should run cold water taps until the flow clears.

Crews will also be servicing blowoff valves on dead-end water mains. Illinois American Water asks the public to avoid work zones to ensure employee safety. Residents can track specific flushing schedules through their MyWater accounts or by monitoring the company's online customer advisory map for real-time service updates.
