Quincy Market Marks 200 Years with 1826-Themed Specials

Two centuries after Mayor Josiah Quincy opened his namesake market to accommodate Boston’s rapid expansion, the iconic destination is marking its bicentennial. Starting August 26, vendors across the Faneuil Hall Marketplace will launch a series of limited-time offerings priced at $18.26 to honor the site's 1826 founding.

The commemorative pricing applies to a diverse array of goods throughout the complex. Participating vendors include Bakey, which is offering a sandwich and latte combo, and Boston Chowda, serving up bread bowls of clam chowder paired with crab cakes. Other specials range from souvenir mugs at Boston Logos to themed ice cream flights at Ben & Jerry’s and specialized slime products at Sloomoo. These offers are scheduled to remain available through the end of the year.

Beyond the festivities, the marketplace is undergoing a significant physical transformation. A multi-phase improvement plan managed by Commodore Builders is currently underway to address deferred maintenance, including the restoration of historic granite pavers and the cleaning of the site's glass sheds. This effort coincides with a steady rise in commercial activity, with ground-floor retail occupancy climbing to 85% in 2026, up from 76% two years prior.

Management is pairing these structural repairs with an aggressive leasing strategy. By partnering with the Boston-based agency Graffito, the marketplace has introduced new tenants such as Mona Sweets and Captain Candy, aiming to blend contemporary retail with the historic character established during the site's landmark 1976 renovation. These updates signal a broader effort to revitalize the venue as it transitions into its third century of operation.
