Aker BP Fast-Tracks Skarv Satellite Production in Norwegian Sea

Aker BP has officially commenced production from the Skarv Satellite Project, bringing the Alve Nord, Idun Nord, and Ørn fields online one year ahead of schedule. The development adds approximately 120 million barrels of oil equivalent to the company’s portfolio while extending the operational life of existing regional infrastructure.

The project utilizes three distinct subsea templates tied back to the Skarv floating production, storage, and offloading unit. By leveraging existing infrastructure, the company has maintained a low carbon footprint, with an intensity of roughly 4.5 kilograms of CO2 per barrel produced. This efficiency, according to CEO Karl Johnny Hersvik, underscores the effectiveness of Aker BP’s alliance-based execution model, which coordinated efforts with partners including OneSubsea, Subsea7, Aker Solutions, and Halliburton.

Beyond the immediate output, the startup marks the completion of all subsea tie-back projects sanctioned by the firm in 2022. With 60 percent of project deliveries sourced from Norwegian suppliers, the effort has provided a measurable boost to regional economic activity. Production from these satellites is slated to represent a core share of Aker BP’s regional output for the coming years, creating a stable foundation for future resource extraction in the Norwegian Sea.
