The Q2 2026 SMB Technology & Cyber Resilience Index, which pulls data from 1,700 managed businesses, highlights that most organizations rely on a false sense of security. While 90% of security leaders typically express confidence in their recovery capabilities, the reality is that fewer than one-third of businesses hit by ransomware successfully restore their full data sets. This gap persists despite the company's managed client base avoiding ransomware detonations entirely over the quarter, even while absorbing 9.19 billion total security events.
Operational data indicates that identity-based attacks are the primary threat vector, with 79% of ransomware incidents originating from compromised credentials. To address these vulnerabilities, Corporate Technologies has adopted more rigorous internal standards for measurement. When shifting to a device-level patch-compliance standard, the company’s compliance score dropped from a legacy 94% to 65.3%. CEO Jim Griffith emphasizes that this transparency is necessary to replace dangerous assumptions with actionable evidence. The index serves as a benchmark for small businesses, tracking metrics ranging from unplanned downtime—which averaged 2.6 hours for managed clients against a 14-hour industry average—to the critical, yet often neglected, discipline of documented disaster recovery testing.
