MERCAN Group to debut in Panama with Pullman hotel transformation

A former hotel property in Panama City’s Bella Vista district will undergo a full-scale architectural overhaul to become the Pullman Panama City. Backed by the MERCAN Group and Accor, the 306-key mixed-use development is set to open in 2028, signaling a major expansion for the international hospitality brand.

The project will feature 180 hotel rooms alongside 126 executive suites, supported by a range of amenities including a rooftop swimming pool, coworking spaces, a spa, and specialized entertainment areas. Architectural firm Mallol Arquitectos will lead the design transformation, while the MERCAN Group oversees the rehabilitation of the structure. This development marks the group's first venture into the Panamanian market, leveraging the country's recent 17.3% surge in first-quarter tourism growth.

Jerry Morgan, CEO of MERCAN Group, identified Panama’s regional connectivity and investment stability as primary drivers for the expansion. Minister of Tourism Gloria De León noted that the project underscores growing confidence in the local tourism sector, which she expects will generate broader economic benefits for local producers and transportation providers. Abel Castro, Chief Development Officer for Accor Americas, added that the site’s strategic placement targets both business and leisure segments, aiming to capitalize on Panama City’s role as a key regional urban hub.
