Leo Cancer Care and GE HealthCare Partner to Advance Upright Radiation

Wisconsin-based Leo Cancer Care is pairing its upright radiation therapy technology with GE HealthCare’s Intelligent Radiation Therapy software. The non-exclusive collaboration aims to integrate imaging, planning, and treatment into a single, connected workflow to reduce the time between diagnosis and the start of cancer treatment.

The partnership targets systemic inefficiencies in oncology, including the fragmentation of clinical data and the technical hurdles of managing multivendor environments. By linking GE HealthCare’s AI-supported iRT platform with Leo Cancer Care’s upright patient positioning systems, the companies intend to streamline complex treatment pathways while reducing the administrative burden on clinicians.

This integration focuses on the Marie system, Leo Cancer Care’s flagship platform capable of supporting proton, carbon ion, neutron, and FLASH therapies. Rather than replacing existing hospital infrastructure, the initiative seeks to develop interoperable solutions that function within current clinical settings. Ben Newton, global head of oncology at GE HealthCare, noted the potential to simplify workflows, while Leo Cancer Care CEO Stephen Towe described the agreement as a validation of the upright treatment model at the highest level of the medical industry.
