GLP-1 Users Outspend Peers on Fitness by Nearly 400 Percent

Americans currently taking GLP-1 medications are investing significantly more in their physical wellbeing than the general population, with monthly fitness spending reaching $449. This figure, highlighted in a new report from The Consumer Collective, dwarfs the $120 average monthly expenditure reported by those not using the weight-loss and diabetes treatments.

The data reveals that 81 percent of GLP-1 users maintain gym memberships, nearly double the 43 percent participation rate among non-users. This investment extends beyond facility access into personal training, recovery services, and dietary supplements. Lifestyle shifts are equally pronounced: users report increased protein intake and higher grocery bills, even as their spending on alcohol, snacks, and dining out declines. Retail habits are also evolving, with 63.4 percent of users purchasing new wardrobes as over two-thirds of the group report dropping at least two clothing sizes.

While weight loss remains the primary motivation for 61.8 percent of users, the broader consumer landscape is shifting toward holistic health. Across all demographics, 70 percent of adults report a heightened focus on wellness compared to last year. Sleep and mental health currently rank as higher priorities than traditional physical fitness or strict dieting. Millennials are currently driving these trends, reporting both the highest usage of GLP-1 medications at 29 percent and the highest monthly fitness spending at $345, according to the survey of 500 U.S. adults.
