The New York-based company, which already employs more than 800 full-time psychiatrists, is positioning its integrated model as a remedy for the disjointed care that plagues the U.S. behavioral health system. By bringing both disciplines under one roof, the organization seeks to address a national crisis where nearly 60 million adults with mental illness face average wait times of 48 days for services. Data from the provider suggests that patients who utilize both a Talkiatry therapist and psychiatrist maintain their connection to care twice as long as those relying on medication management alone.
Dr. Georgia Gaveras, co-founder and Chief Medical Officer, noted that pandemic-era shifts in licensing created a patchwork of services that often leaves patients struggling with inconsistency when they travel or move. The company’s move to scale its therapy arm follows a $210 million Series D funding round earlier this year and a strategic partnership with the American Medical Group Association. With 4 million patient visits now completed, the firm is leveraging its full-time employment model to ensure clinicians have the stability to build long-term relationships, a strategy intended to minimize the communication gaps that occur when specialists work in isolation.
