The leadership change marks a significant turning point for the Vancouver-based firm. Darren Entwistle, who has steered the company for over a quarter-century, will officially retire on June 30. In recognition of his extensive tenure, the board plans to honor him with the title of CEO Emeritus upon his departure from both his executive position and the board of directors.
Leadership Transition Timeline
Victor Dodig steps into the role after a decade-long career as the president and CEO of CIBC, one of Canada’s largest financial institutions. Dodig, who has served as an independent director on the Telus board since May 2022, assumes the title of CEO-designate with immediate effect. According to the company's transition plan, he will join the leadership team full-time on May 1 before formally taking the helm at the start of July. The succession follows Entwistle’s 26-year tenure, during which Telus evolved from a regional phone provider into a global technology and communications powerhouse. The company confirmed the appointment on Thursday, opting for a veteran of the Canadian financial sector to navigate a tightening regulatory and competitive landscape. The move ensures a structured handover as Dodig integrates into the executive suite over the coming months.
