Norwegian Cruise Line Appoints Former Subway CEO John Chidsey

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has named veteran restaurant executive John Chidsey as its next chief executive officer, effective Thursday. Chidsey succeeds Harry Sommer, who is stepping down from his roles as president, CEO, and board member as part of a strategic leadership transition.

Chidsey, 62, brings significant experience in global consumer-facing brands to the cruise operator, having previously served as the CEO of both Subway and Burger King. His appointment signals a return to a familiar leadership structure; he served on Norwegian’s board of directors from 2013 to 2022 and was reappointed to the position this past February.

Norwegian Cruise Line touted John Chidsey for his track record of leading large-scale companies through strategic and operational transformations. The move comes as the company seeks to maintain momentum in a highly competitive travel market, replacing outgoing executive Harry Sommer.

Financial Outlook and Performance

Alongside the leadership announcement, the company provided a brief update on its fiscal performance. Management expects its fourth-quarter net yield to land near the midpoint of its previously disclosed range. Furthermore, Norwegian anticipates that its core quarterly and full-year results will align with the guidance issued to investors earlier this year.

The cruise line is scheduled to provide a more comprehensive look at its financial health when it releases its full quarterly earnings report on March 2.
