ASU Guarantees Admission for California Community College Graduates

Arizona State University and the California Community Colleges system have launched a statewide partnership guaranteeing admission for students holding an Associate Degree for Transfer. The initiative allows graduates to enter ASU with junior standing, mapping their existing credits to nearly 100 bachelor’s degree programs and ensuring graduation within two years.

The agreement, formalized at the ASU California Center in Los Angeles, addresses a long-standing hurdle for students navigating the transition from two-year to four-year institutions. By accepting at least 60 semester units, ASU satisfies lower-division general education requirements, effectively removing the uncertainty regarding credit transfers that often stalls academic progress. This framework is designed to help California address a projected surge in labor market demand for bachelor’s degree holders by 2033.

Beyond the 100 directly mapped programs, the partnership provides access to hundreds of additional degree options, including in-person study at California and Arizona locations and online learning. Nancy Gonzales, ASU’s executive vice president and university provost, emphasized that the program aims to provide students with a clear, reliable path to completion. James Todd, vice chancellor of academic affairs for California Community Colleges, noted that the collaboration simplifies the transfer process, allowing students to balance work and family responsibilities while pursuing economic mobility. Students can now access detailed pathway information and pre-enrollment guidance through the dedicated portal at adt.asu.edu.
