The accreditation process, completed in July 2026, involved on-site inspections of more than 80 clinics across 17 states and Washington, D.C. Surveyors evaluated performance metrics including care coordination, infection prevention, medication management, and the safety of electronic health records. By meeting Medical Center standards, MinuteClinic is now formally recognized for its capacity to handle long-term patient relationships, diagnostic testing, and continuous care plans—a significant shift from its traditional role as an urgent care provider.
Currently, 65 percent of MinuteClinic locations offer primary care services for adults, with 80 percent of those sites specifically assessed under the new, stricter standards. Jon Thiboutot, President of Retail Health at CVS Health, noted that the move reflects a commitment to applying high-level clinical rigor to preventive and chronic care. The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval remains valid for three years, signaling to payers and patients that the retail network adheres to the same safety and quality protocols as traditional hospital-based medical centers.
