The index evaluates the labor market by weighting task importance within various roles, offering a periodic forecast of shifting demand. According to Noah Yosif, chief economist at the association, the tool moves beyond speculative trends to show exactly which responsibilities are moving from human workers to machine systems, helping staffing agencies better advise their clients.
Initial findings reveal a stark divide across industries. Computer and mathematical fields currently face the highest levels of AI integration, closely followed by administrative support and sales roles. Conversely, physical labor sectors—including construction, extraction, farming, and forestry—remain largely untouched by current AI capabilities. Among the most affected individual roles are software quality assurance analysts, writers, and data entry specialists. While 183 occupations currently show no detectable AI impact, the index will update regularly to track the evolving influence of automated technologies on the workforce.
