The transaction encompasses three specific facilities: White Rock West, White Rock East, and Horizon Hill. While the latter two sites generate 200 megawatts each, White Rock West contributes 100 megawatts to the total capacity. Despite relinquishing nearly half of its ownership stake, TransAlta will maintain operational control over the sites.
Chief Executive Joel Hunter described the divestment as a move to monetize assets located outside the company’s core geographic footprint. The capital infusion is earmarked to strengthen the firm’s balance sheet and provide the necessary liquidity to pursue future growth opportunities. By retaining a majority interest, the company ensures continued participation in the long-term performance of these wind assets.
