U.S. Soybean Exports Surge as China Leads Market Demand

A sharp spike in U.S. soybean demand pushed weekly export sales to 2.84 million metric tons for the 2026/27 marketing year, a nearly fivefold increase from the prior week. The surge, fueled primarily by heavy procurement from China, highlights a robust recovery in global appetite for American oilseeds.

The Department of Agriculture reported that soybean sales comfortably hit the upper end of analyst expectations, which had ranged from 1.1 million to 3 million tons. China secured its position as the leading buyer, accounting for 2.18 million tons of the total volume.

Corn exports mirrored this upward trend, climbing 36% to 1.53 million tons, surpassing market forecasts. Mexico emerged as the primary destination for this corn, receiving 477,700 tons. In contrast, wheat performance faltered, dropping 25% to 239,600 tons—a figure that fell short of the 250,000 to 550,000 ton range anticipated by analysts. Mexico also served as the lead buyer for wheat, taking 98,000 tons.
