Analysts expect the company to report an underlying replacement-cost profit of $7.33 billion, a sharp climb from the $2.21 billion recorded during the same period last year. Despite this performance, BP shares have lagged behind European peers despite a 46% gain year-to-date. Investors remain cautious, waiting for new Chief Executive Meg O'Neill to define the firm’s long-term direction.
While the cash surge invites speculation regarding shareholder returns, a resumption of quarterly share buybacks remains unlikely this week.
