Wall Street Transforms Into a Soccer Pitch for Summer Series

Amid the concrete canyons of Lower Manhattan, a pop-up soccer field is taking over 28 Liberty Plaza. Starting June 13, the temporary venue brings free pickup matches to the heart of the financial district, turning a high-traffic urban corridor into a community hub for players of all skill levels.

The project is a collaboration between Plei, a pickup soccer platform with nearly 600,000 users, and the indoor facility network Socceroof. Running through June 16, the pitch is open daily from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Participants can secure spots for specific 5v5 matches by using the Plei app and searching for the keyword "28 Liberty."

Sebastian Duque, founder and CEO of Plei, described the initiative as an effort to lower the barrier to entry for the sport and foster local connections. Jonathan Lupinelli, co-founder of Socceroof, added that the activation aims to turn a high-profile urban space into an accessible environment for social play. This installation serves as the first in a series of planned soccer-focused events expected to roll out across the city throughout the summer tournament season.
