Bengaluru Named Host City for Global Chess League Season 4

Bengaluru will serve as the backdrop for the fourth season of the Global Chess League, marking a shift for the franchise-based tournament to India’s tech hub. The competition, a joint venture between Tech Mahindra and FIDE, is scheduled to commence on September 3, 2026, bringing rapid-fire, team-based chess to the city.

The choice of Bengaluru aligns with the league’s strategy to capitalize on India’s surging influence in the chess world. By moving away from traditional, quiet match environments, the league emphasizes a high-intensity, spectator-focused format that features mixed-gender lineups and rapid time controls. Organizers aim to leverage the city’s young, digitally connected population to further elevate the sport's profile.

Gourav Rakshit, Commissioner of the Global Chess League, characterized the selection of the host city as a defining moment for the evolution of the game. FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich echoed this sentiment, noting that the venue provides an ideal setting to sustain the current momentum of the global chess movement. As the league prepares for a September start, the focus remains on integrating elite-level competition with a team-based narrative that has defined the previous three editions of the tournament.
