AstraZeneca Joins ZERO Prostate Cancer to Target 100,000 Lives Saved

Black men are 70% more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer and twice as likely to die from it, a disparity AstraZeneca now aims to combat as a founding partner of the "Blitz the Barriers" initiative, a national program targeting 100,000 lives saved by 2035.

The partnership focuses on dismantling obstacles to early detection and treatment for populations at the highest risk, including veterans whose diagnosis rates double those of the general population. Through a combination of in-person community events and virtual resources, the initiative seeks to bridge the gap in care that has historically hindered survival rates in marginalized communities.

Courtney Bugler, President and CEO of ZERO Prostate Cancer, stated the collaboration aligns with a vision of accessible, unwavering support for patients. Daniele Paone, US Vice President at AstraZeneca, emphasized that the company’s goal is to eliminate cancer as a cause of death by ensuring patients receive equitable care. The program, which debuted in Atlanta last September, continues its expansion on June 18 with a launch event at the Baltimore Convention Center featuring Mayor Brandon Scott.
