The partnership targets a specific gap in the streaming landscape: while factual programming attracts a highly engaged, premium demographic, the content has historically remained fragmented across low-tier library channels. By integrating Documentary+ into its unified buying system, Ionic plans to leverage its existing infrastructure to connect brands in automotive, finance, and technology with the streamer’s audience, which spans over 100 million U.S. households and reaches viewers in more than 80 countries.
Documentary+ was acquired earlier this year by the streaming television company acTVe. Its current library features high-profile titles such as the Oscar-shortlisted A Swim Lesson and TIFF selection Still Single. For Documentary+ CEO Geoff Clark, the arrangement secures the capital and technical support necessary to scale their original content slate. Shafi Mustafa, Managing Director of Ionic Studios, noted that the collaboration aims to provide the first properly operated home for factual content within the open streaming ecosystem. The platform’s inventory will now be represented exclusively by Ionic, moving away from disparate distribution to a centralized marketplace model.
