Sean O’Brien and Fred Zuckerman Secure Second Term at Teamsters Helm

With no challengers meeting the constitutional threshold, Sean M. O'Brien and Fred Zuckerman have been reelected to serve another five-year term leading the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. The decision, finalized by a white ballot at the union's 31st International Convention in Las Vegas, cements their mandate for militant labor activism.

The reelection of the O'Brien-Zuckerman slate follows a vote by 1,572 delegates representing more than 330 local unions across the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Since taking office four years ago, the leadership duo has prioritized an aggressive organizing strategy, claiming to have added 100,000 new members and secured a landmark contract for 340,000 UPS employees. O'Brien, a fourth-generation member from Local 25, framed the result as a victory for the rank-and-file, signaling that the administration remains focused on upcoming labor disputes at UPS and Amazon.

Financial stability remains a pillar of their platform, with Zuckerman noting that the union now holds over $1 billion in total assets, including a $365 million Strike and Defense Fund. Looking toward the 2027–2032 term, the leadership has committed to increasing density in core industries and lobbying for the Faster Labor Contracts Act. The new General Executive Board, featuring regional vice presidents from across North America, is scheduled to be sworn into office in March 2027.
