FirstEnergy Braces for Fourth Major Storm System in Pennsylvania

With 14 confirmed tornadoes already carving a path through the region since early June, FirstEnergy Pennsylvania is bracing for its fourth significant storm system in less than two weeks. Forecasters warn of winds reaching 65 mph, threatening to topple trees and snap power lines across the service area.

John Hawkins, president of FirstEnergy’s Pennsylvania operations, confirmed that the company has activated its incident command structure and mobilized additional lineworkers and forestry crews to manage the expected damage. The utility is preparing for a 24/7 restoration effort, building on a two-week stretch of extreme weather that has left the grid fragile and susceptible to further outages.

To address long-term stability, the company has committed to a $13 billion investment through its Energize365 initiative, aimed at grid hardening between 2026 and 2030. In the immediate term, residents are urged to remain at least 30 feet from downed lines and report outages via the company’s dedicated text and online portals. With the system expected to arrive Wednesday night, the utility is prioritizing real-time damage assessment to expedite repairs across its four regional subsidiaries.
