The project’s initial phase, valued at $5 billion, focuses on building a 125-Megawatt data center scheduled for completion in 2027. Despite broader electricity deficits across the country, officials remain confident that the Ekibastuz area can support the facility. Current capacity sits at 300 MW, with expansion plans targeting 1 Gigawatt of annual output to sustain the site’s operations.
Zhaslan Madiyev, Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, expects the hub to generate $3 billion in annual export revenue. The initiative serves as a cornerstone of the 'Digital Qazaqstan' strategy, which mandates the integration of artificial intelligence into public administration. Firebird CEO Razmik Ovakimian claims the collaboration will position Kazakhstan among the top 10 technological nations globally within three years of the launch.
This partnership mirrors an ongoing effort in Armenia, where Firebird and Nvidia are finalizing a similar AI development project. By leveraging US-made hardware and cloud expertise, the government intends to establish a permanent foothold in the Eurasian digital market, attracting global tech firms and creating a specialized workforce for the AI-token economy.
