Prometheus Hyperscale Clears Hurdle for 1.25 GW Wyoming Data Center

The Uinta County Board of Commissioners has granted unanimous approval for a 506-acre data center campus near Evanston, Wyoming. This permit clears the path for Prometheus Hyperscale to break ground on a facility designed for an initial 1.25 GW of capacity, with plans to eventually scale to 5 GW.

The project avoids the common pitfalls of modern data center development by operating as a fully islanded microgrid. By utilizing on-site natural gas engines and turbines, the facility bypasses the local utility grid entirely, insulating the project from interconnection delays and regional ratepayer concerns. Furthermore, the site employs a closed-loop liquid cooling system, limiting annual water consumption to the equivalent of roughly 15 homes.

Economic projections from the University of Wyoming suggest the campus will generate $3.1 billion in economic activity through 2032. The build-out is expected to take between 48 and 60 months, with construction slated to begin within six months of final permitting. Prometheus Hyperscale, led by President Trevor Neilson and founder Trenton Thornock, views this win as a blueprint for future developments, including upcoming sites near Casper, Wyoming, and along the Texas I-35 corridor.
