EBI Expands Bone Healing Portfolio with Xstim Acquisition

Parsippany-based EBI has acquired Xstim, a division of Precision Medical Products, to consolidate its influence in the bone growth stimulation market. By integrating Xstim’s wearable, capacitively coupled electrical stimulation technology, the company aims to broaden its clinical offerings for lumbar spinal fusion and nonunion fracture patients.

The acquisition allows EBI—a portfolio company of Avista Healthcare Partners—to combine its existing non-surgical and implantable platforms with Xstim’s modern, non-invasive therapy. This move reinforces EBI’s status as a pure-play provider in electrobiology, targeting improvements in patient comfort and clinical outcomes. CEO Kevin Kenny noted that the integration strengthens the firm’s R&D pipeline and aligns with their objective to provide versatile options for surgeons and care teams.

EBI, which has operated in the bone healing space since 1979, will now incorporate Xstim’s technology alongside its established products, including the SpF and SpinalPak systems. Ropes & Gray LLP acted as legal counsel for EBI, while William Blair and Perkins Coie advised Precision Medical Products during the transaction.
