Novocure Glioblastoma Trial Falls Short of Primary Survival Goal

Novocure’s late-stage clinical trial for newly diagnosed glioblastoma failed to prove that starting therapy earlier significantly improves overall survival. The study compared the efficacy of initiating Tumor Treating Fields during chemoradiation versus the standard maintenance phase, ultimately showing no statistically significant difference between the two treatment timelines.

Novocure Glioblastoma Trial Falls Short of Primary Survival Goal

Patients who began TTFields therapy at the start of chemoradiation achieved a median overall survival of 17.7 months. This marginal increase over the 17.5-month median observed in the maintenance phase group fell short of the trial’s primary endpoint. Despite the statistical miss, Uri Weinberg, the company’s chief medical and innovation officer, noted the trial confirmed the safety and feasibility of the earlier intervention approach.

Investors reacted sharply to the news, sending Novocure shares down 11% to $15.90 during Thursday’s premarket trading session.
