The initiative represents a significant expansion for the Springfield-based organization. After a 2025 pilot program served 152,000 children through 219 organizations, the 2026 effort has nearly doubled its reach. Operations now span 60 regional hubs, delivering weekly shipments of shelf-stable staples, produce, and proteins to rural and working-class communities.
For families already managing tight budgets, the loss of school-provided meals creates a severe, immediate strain. According to Convoy of Hope president Hal Donaldson, the program aims to provide a reliable safety net during these critical months. Local church partners and community organizations serve as the final link in the chain, distributing pre-packed bags of food to children who would otherwise face empty cupboards. By coordinating logistics, the organization allows small local entities to provide consistent support without the burden of sourcing their own inventory.
