Michigan Launches Support Program for Small Manufacturers

Small manufacturers across Michigan face a shifting industrial landscape as global competition and supply chain volatility intensify. To help these businesses pivot, Automation Alley and the Michigan Manufacturers Association are launching a virtual seminar series detailing the Michigan Auto Supplier Transition Program, a statewide initiative providing free expert guidance and resources.

The program connects qualifying firms with technical, legal, and financial support designed to help them diversify into sectors like aerospace, defense, and electric vehicles. Participants can leverage these resources to move beyond traditional automotive dependency and identify new growth markets. Tom Kelly, CEO of Automation Alley, noted that the transition is necessary for companies to remain competitive as the state’s manufacturing economy evolves. Rodney Parkkonen of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation emphasized that the initiative aims to provide small-scale operations with the same professional expertise typically reserved for larger enterprises. The 30-minute webinars are scheduled for June 24, July 21, July 22, and July 23, with various time slots available to accommodate business schedules. Interested parties are encouraged to attend a session to review eligibility requirements and application procedures for the state-backed support network.
