Overland AI Secures $100 Million to Scale Autonomous Defense Tech

Overland AI has raised $100 million in a new funding round to accelerate the deployment of its autonomous ground vehicle technology across the U.S. military. Led by Joe Lonsdale’s 8VC, the investment marks a pivot as the Department of Defense moves from testing experimental robotics to integrating AI-driven hardware into active operations.

The capital injection includes participation from Point72 Ventures, Ascend Venture Capital, Shasta Ventures, and Overmatch Ventures. In addition to the equity round, Overland AI secured a $20 million venture debt facility from TriplePoint Capital, providing the firm with substantial liquidity to meet the rising demand for its flagship platform, ULTRA.

Powering the ULTRA Platform

The ULTRA system is currently being utilized by the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, and Special Operations Command. Designed to navigate complex off-road environments without human intervention, the vehicle serves as a cornerstone for the military’s push toward modernized, uncrewed logistics and reconnaissance.

The company’s expansion comes as defense officials prioritize operational integration over mere experimentation. According to co-founder and President Stephanie Bonk, the funding allows the company to scale in lockstep with the specific units adopting the technology. This transition signals a broader trend in national security where autonomous systems are no longer peripheral assets but essential components of ground strategy.
