UniCredit Increases Commerzbank Stake to 42.5 Percent

Investors have tendered shares representing 12.51% of Commerzbank capital under UniCredit’s takeover bid, marking a incremental shift in the ongoing ownership battle. This brings the Italian lender's total stake to 42.5%, a figure bolstered by previously held equity and share-settled derivatives.

The latest disclosure reveals a marginal climb from the 12.41% reported just days ago. UniCredit’s position now comprises its original 26.77% equity stake, 3.22% held in derivatives, and the additional shares acquired through the formal tender process.

UniCredit launched its takeover bid on May 5, ostensibly to push its stake beyond the 30% threshold rather than to seize immediate control. The bank remains legally obligated to provide these periodic updates as the acquisition window persists.
