Lys Therapeutics Secures €25 Million to Launch LYS241 Clinical Trials

With over €25 million raised since 2021, French biotech Lys Therapeutics is moving its lead candidate, LYS241, into human clinical trials. The funding, bolstered by a $5 million grant from The Michael J. Fox Foundation, aims to test the antibody’s ability to treat Parkinson’s, stroke, and other neurovascular conditions.

The company’s lead drug, LYS241, is a humanized monoclonal antibody designed to block the interaction between tissue plasminogen activator and NMDA receptors. By inhibiting this specific neurovascular pathway, researchers hope to mitigate blood-brain barrier dysfunction and neuroinflammation without compromising essential physiological functions. This mechanism positions the therapy as a potential treatment for synucleinopathies, including multiple system atrophy, and as an adjunctive therapy for ischemic stroke recovery.

CEO Manuel Blanc noted that the capital injection validates the firm's focus on neurovascular biology. The upcoming Phase 1a/1b program will prioritize safety and pharmacokinetics, utilizing biomarker-heavy cohorts to identify early signals of efficacy. Beyond private backing, the financial support includes contributions from Bpifrance and the France 2030 initiative, providing the necessary runway to finalize manufacturing and regulatory requirements before the first patient enrollments.
