United Launches Transatlantic Starlink Wi-Fi on Widebody Fleet

Flight 14 from Newark to London took off this evening aboard a Boeing 777-200, marking the first time United Airlines has deployed Starlink satellite internet on a widebody transatlantic route. This milestone signals the start of an aggressive fleet-wide expansion intended to cover even the most remote polar regions.

The airline plans to equip nearly 60 widebody jets with the technology by the end of this year, with the entire widebody fleet scheduled for completion by next summer. United currently operates over 400 Starlink-enabled aircraft and anticipates reaching a total of 1,000 equipped planes before 2026 concludes. The high-speed network targets hubs in Newark, Washington D.C., Houston, and San Francisco, servicing international destinations such as Paris, Tokyo, and Buenos Aires.

David Kinzelman, United’s Chief Customer Officer, noted that the technology aims to replicate home-like connectivity at 35,000 feet. Since the initial launch last spring, the airline has served over 18.6 million passengers on equipped flights, reporting that customer satisfaction scores for Wi-Fi nearly doubled during that period. The service remains free for MileagePlus members, who can access real-time gaming, collaborative work tools, and multi-device streaming during their travel.
