The transition addresses a significant friction point in health benefit programs, where long delivery times for physical cards often dampen member enthusiasm. According to a survey of over 500 Medicaid participants conducted by InComm, 56% of respondents explicitly prefer electronic delivery over postal mail. Joe Donato, Senior Vice President at InComm Healthcare, noted that instant recognition is a critical driver for engagement, allowing members to access funds immediately after completing verified health tasks.
Beyond member convenience, the shift to digital provides health plans with enhanced oversight. The platform allows for the reclamation of unspent funds and provides tighter compliance controls, ensuring that restricted-spend benefits cannot be used for unauthorized items like tobacco or alcohol. By integrating with the existing OTC Network, which spans more than 77,000 retail locations, these digital rewards can be directed specifically toward nutritious foods and wellness products, directly supporting better health outcomes.
