The American Water Works Association presented the honors to the Muncie White River plant and the Kokomo Wildcat Creek plant, highlighting the infrastructure's ability to maintain high-level output over several decades. This achievement stems from a voluntary initiative that encourages utilities to push beyond baseline government mandates to improve overall treatment processes.
Kari Britto, Vice President of Operations at Indiana American Water, credited the long-term success to the local teams of engineers and operators. According to Britto, the focus remains on ensuring that residents receive tap water that surpasses state and federal safety thresholds. As a subsidiary of American Water, the state utility serves roughly 1.5 million people, utilizing this industry-driven program to mitigate operational risks and protect public health across its Indiana service areas.
