CRRC Debuts Xuankun Locomotive Series for Central Asian Industrial Rails

At the 9th China-Eurasia Expo in Urumqi, CRRC Corporation Limited unveiled XUANKUN, a new-energy locomotive brand designed specifically for the rugged mining and heavy-industry sectors across Central Asia. The platform offers hybrid, battery, and hydrogen powertrains to address regional demands for cleaner, more efficient industrial freight transport.

The Xuankun series, named after the Kunlun Mountains, provides power outputs ranging from 1,000kW to 2,000kW. CRRC has engineered the locomotives to withstand harsh climates while utilizing modular configurations that support diverse operator needs in port and mining railways. The lineup features three core powertrain options: diesel-battery hybrid, pure battery, and hydrogen fuel cell.

Technical performance data highlights significant gains in efficiency and environmental impact. Hybrid models are capable of reducing CO₂ emissions by 374 tonnes annually, while offering a range exceeding 1,100km under 3,000-tonne traction. Beyond emission reductions, the series integrates AI-driven features such as voice control, active obstacle avoidance, and precision docking to facilitate unmanned operations in remote industrial zones. CRRC General Manager Wang Feng stated the launch serves as a foundation for the company’s internationalized development of new-energy rail technology.

Alongside the Xuankun launch, CRRC displayed over 30 additional products, including heavy-haul coal hopper cars and maglev systems. By aligning these technologies with Central Asia's industrial corridors, the company aims to establish a practical framework for regional decarbonization.
