Chevron Hits Significant Oil and Gas Deposit Offshore Angola

More than 2,000 feet of hydrocarbons sit beneath the seabed of Angola’s Block 0, where Chevron has struck a new oil and gas condensate discovery. The find, located in the Lower Congo Basin, offers a potential lifeline for the country's efforts to reverse a decade of declining national production.

The 105-4X exploration well encountered 300 feet of net pay in the Pinda reservoir, which the company describes as having excellent quality. Rather than pursuing a costly standalone development, Chevron is evaluating plans to tie the well directly into existing local infrastructure. This strategy could accelerate the timeline for bringing the site online while keeping capital expenditure to a minimum.

Cabinda Gulf Oil Company, a Chevron subsidiary, operates the block with a 39.2% interest, alongside partners including Sonangol E&P, TotalEnergies, and Azule Energy. The discovery follows the December 2025 launch of production at the South N’dola Platform and arrives amid broader regional momentum, including recent appraisal success at the Katambi-2 field. For Angola, where output has stabilized near 1.1 million barrels per day after dipping below the million-mark last year, the existing pipeline network remains a critical advantage over other frontier markets. Chevron continues to lean into this African strategy, with additional drilling campaigns scheduled across Nigeria and Namibia through 2026.
