Cook County property owners can now access 2025 tax bills online

Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas has opened the online portal for second installment property tax bills, allowing homeowners to view and pay their assessments two weeks ahead of the scheduled physical mailings. The move aims to streamline collections and provide property owners early clarity on their total tax liabilities.

The Treasurer's Office intends to distribute 1.8 million paper bills by September 1, with an official payment deadline set for October 1. By accessing the cookcountytreasurer.com portal, residents can bypass the mail system to confirm exemptions and check their current balances using their property address or Property Index Number.

Pappas recommends digital payments, noting that direct bank transfers incur no processing fees and eliminate the risks associated with mailed checks. For those facing financial constraints, the system allows for partial payments, which can reduce the interest accrued on late balances. While online credit card payments are an option, they carry a 2.08% convenience fee. Taxpayers preferring traditional methods may visit nearly 400 Chase Bank branches or the Treasurer’s Office in downtown Chicago, though these locations require a physical copy of the tax bill for processing.
