Idaho Reclaims World Record for Largest Serving of French Fries

A massive 1474-pound heap of golden, fresh-cut potatoes secured a Guinness World Record for Idaho on Friday, ending a twelve-year international tug-of-war. The feat, achieved during Boise Potato Days, officially brought the title back to the American heartland after the record spent years circulating through Greece and India.

The Idaho Potato Commission and Spud Daddy orchestrated the event, processing 1700 pounds of raw potatoes to eclipse the previous 2018 record of 1,452.85 pounds set in India. Guinness adjudicator Michael Empric verified the final weight, confirming that the state had successfully reclaimed the crown it first wore in 2014.

Logistics for the attempt proved substantial, requiring 50 volunteers and six industrial fryers to maintain the necessary pace. Jamey Higham, President and CEO of the commission, noted that returning the record to Idaho served as a tribute to the growers who define the industry. Following the official weigh-in, the record-breaking batch was distributed to attendees, allowing the public to consume the history they helped create.
