Led by Professor Clifford Stein, the Columbia research team will work alongside Hammerhead engineers to move beyond current management limitations. The project centers on simulation and control-policy evaluation, aiming to extract maximum utility from existing infrastructure without compromising reliability. By applying reinforcement learning, the team seeks to build systems that dynamically adjust to the competing demands of IT workloads and physical site constraints.
Rahul Kar, CEO and founder of Hammerhead AI, noted that as power becomes a binding constraint for new deployments, the software governing these environments must undergo rigorous validation before integration. The research aims to formalize operational challenges and refine methods for safe, autonomous control in industrial settings. This effort arrives as grid interconnection delays force operators to find ways to increase capacity within their current power footprints, potentially unlocking significant untapped potential in existing facilities.
