The initiative, set for a 2027 rollout, addresses a systemic issue where roughly one-third of health care spending is classified as inefficient due to poor coordination and administrative complexity. Rather than functioning as a standalone chatbot, Health Sense embeds itself into existing digital and care management channels. It aggregates information regarding a person's health history, pharmacy coverage, and previous interactions to provide a continuous, context-aware experience.
Bryan Holgerson, president of Cigna Healthcare U.S., noted that the system is built to prevent the frustration of patients having to repeat their medical history across different providers. The platform will debut with a focus on oncology and cardiometabolic health—areas where patients frequently face the highest burdens of coordination and cost. According to Dr. Stanley Crittenden, the company's chief medical officer, the model uses data to provide clinical teams with the context necessary to assist patients in taking informed, timely actions alongside their primary care providers.
