Cognia Names 54 Schools and Systems to Accredited with Distinction List

Fifty-four institutions spanning 17 U.S. states and six countries have secured the Accredited with Distinction status for the 2025-2026 academic year. The recognition follows a rigorous evaluation process conducted by Cognia, a nonprofit organization that reviews educational standards across global public and private school systems.

The latest results reflect a comprehensive assessment of 1,265 institutions reviewed throughout the year. Among the cohort reaching the highest tier of performance, 40 individual schools and 14 larger systems demonstrated exceptional outcomes. These organizations met and exceeded specific performance metrics, including growth in student learning, the maintenance of healthy educational cultures, and the implementation of high-quality instructional environments.

Cognia President and CEO Dr. Mark A. Elgart emphasized that these institutions represent a standard of educational excellence driven by a commitment to continuous improvement. The accreditation process requires a multi-stage approach, involving institutional self-assessment, external evaluations by third-party experts, and a subsequent improvement phase. To maintain this status, institutions must repeat the engagement review at least every six years, ensuring that teaching, learning, and leadership remain aligned with current research-based standards.
