Major semiconductor manufacturers are steadily phasing out legacy NAND formats, creating significant redesign burdens for defense contractors. Unlike commercial electronics, which refresh hardware every few years, aerospace systems require components that remain available and reliable for over a decade. Flexxon addresses this by committing to fixed-BOM support, allowing manufacturers to avoid repeated system re-qualifications.
The collaboration centers on Flexxon’s specialized portfolio, including the HIX Series PCIe SSDs, XTRA VII eMMC, and FxAdv II memory cards. These devices are engineered for harsh environments, featuring radiation-hardened designs tested against Total Ionizing Dose (TID), Single Event Effects (SEE), and Total Non-Ionizing Dose (TNID). Beyond radiation resistance, the hardware offers high-capacity storage up to 8TB and advanced security protocols, including FIPS 140-2 certification and AES-256 encryption, for use in satellites, rovers, and intelligence systems.
World Micro complements this technology with supply-chain strategies aimed at mitigating component shortages. According to Vladimir Prevot, VP of Supply Chain, the priority is program continuity, ensuring that hardware remains accessible long after standard commercial cycles have ended. By integrating these storage solutions into early design phases, the companies aim to help contractors stabilize their supply chains against the unpredictability of the global semiconductor market.
